7 Mind-Blowing Health Documentaries You Need to Watch Now

If you eat you need to watch these. Food is something we all have an intimate relationship with and being knowledgeable about where it comes from and how it potentially affects our health and environment is crucial. I’ve compiled a list of what I consider must-see health documentaries for you to check out, so all you need to do is sit back and watch. Deep thinking and conversations guaranteed. Leave a comment to let me know your thoughts, or if you have a favorite that I didn't list. <3

Earthlings

Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, this 2005 doco will break your heart, but knowledge is power, so please watch it if you don’t know what happens to animals used for human consumption. It exposes their realities, which is shown via hidden cameras and presents the truth in the following chapters: pets, food, clothing, scientific research, entertainment. If you could only choose one to watch, this would be it.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret

Another of my favourites, this environmental film looks at “The most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it”. If you have any interest in the environment make this part of your next movie night. Did you know: animal agriculture is responsible for up to 91% of Amazon forest destruction?

Bonus: HERE is a detailed infographic from Cowspiracy about the facts concerning the environment and animal agriculture.

What the Health

The 2017 movie from the creators of Cowspiracy, looks at how what we eat affects our health, and why certain government and food corporations are keeping information hidden. It presents some controversial statements that has made it a “love it or hate it” movie.

PlantPure Nation

Demonstrates the powerful effects a plant-based way of eating can produce. Dr. T. Colin Campbell puts a group of people through a vegan diet for 10 days, and presents their results, including blood tests. Super inspiring and interesting, paired with a dose of resistance from the usual authorities.

Food, Inc.

This 2008 Oscar-nominated film is another of my faves. Food, Inc. takes a look at our food industry and exposes some disturbing facts that are conveniently hidden away from us. It covers different aspects including animal ethics, how the farmers are treated, and environmental impact, and really opens your eyes to how food production is an unethical money-making industry in most cases. Did you know that our food is tightly controlled by just a few corporations? In an industry rife with corruption and lies, this movie doesn’t paint a pretty picture of the food giants and the government agencies involved.

That Sugar Film

Did you know that sugar is added to products that you wouldn’t even suspect? Ever read the sugar content on those “healthy” granola bars or yogurts? Damon Gameau takes viewers on an entertaining adventure to show the effects of an experiment he conducted on himself where he ate supposedly healthy foods filled with hidden sugar. You'll be an expert on sugar after this!

Vegan 2017

The third offering from Plant Based News, Vegan 2017 follows the rise of veganism and presents the top headlines from the year.

Coming Soon: Game Changers.

A film by James Cameron which is touted as a shocking exposé of the world’s most dangerous myth that meat protein is a must for strength, health, and good nutrition. Jam-packed with elite athletes, soldiers, performance experts, anthropologists and health visionaries who prove this is untrue, this “groundbreaking” film is one to see.
